DNS Settings for Hosted Email

Like most services on the Internet, email relies on DNS to allow systems to locate where to send and receive email for a domain.  If the DNS records for your domain are hosted on N2Net’s DNS servers, then we will create the appropriate DNS records for you.  If you wish to host the DNS records for your domain with a 3rd party, then you will need to create these DNS records manually.  The following is a list of the DNS records you are required to create when hosting email with N2Net for your domain.

For example, if your domain name was mydomain.tld, then you would need the following DNS records.

For most web-based DNS management interfaces, you must remove the trailing dot at the end of the records above. If you need assistance with setting up these records and your domain is not hosted on N2Net’s DNS servers, please contact technical support for your DNS provider.

Some DNS management interfaces (example: Network Solutions) do not allow you to create a CNAME record that contains an underscore in the name. This limitation will not allow you to create the “default._domainkey.mydomain.tld” entry listed above. If you experience this limitation, we would recommend that you contact us to migrate your DNS services to N2Net. However, if you wish to continue to use your existing DNS provider, you may be able to work around this limitation by creating a TXT record as detailed below.
